"In December 2008 we took our daughter Karly to the emergency room for a high fever and cough. The doctors told us she had pneumonia, then a CAT scan two days later showed that she had a tumor in her chest the size of a softball that was collapsing her left lung and compressing her spine. The next morning, Karly was taken via Life Flight to Nicklaus Children's Hospital, formerly Miami Children's Hospital, where a great oncology team was ready to treat her.
Over the next few weeks, Karly then had many tests, scans and biopsies. We were preparing ourselves for chemotherapy, when Dr. Steven Stylianos and Dr. Sanjiv Bhatia made the decision to remove the tumor by surgery. They were very successful. In fact, a surgery that we were told would take 10 hours with a team of doctors only took half that time. Karly is now 5 and is very happy and healthy. We are eternally grateful to Miami Children's Hospital, and its team of doctors and nurses who made us feel like family. She is our miracle!"
