Paciente del mes de diciembre: Charlie

Después de sobrevivir a un embarazo de alto riesgo de mellizos, los Strombom se enfrentaron a otra complicación más. A su tercer hijo, un bebé nonato llamado Charlie, le diagnosticaron una malformación congénita de las vías respiratorias pulmonares (CPAM) y se sometió a dos intervenciones en el útero para permitir un período de gestación completo y saludable. Una vez nacido, el equipo de LifeFlight del Nicklaus Children’s Hospital estuvo a la espera para transportar a Charlie desde West Palm Beach hasta Miami.


El Viaje de Baby J

Apenas una semana después de nacer, Baby J comenzó a mostrar signos de malestar. Una visita al cardiólogo pediátrico reveló que su corazón estaba muy enfermo. Fue transferido al Nicklaus Children’s Hospital para esperar la cirugía de una coartación aórtica crucial.

Annual Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenantion (ECMO) Reunion

Two dozen former ICU patients had a great time today reuniting with their care teams at the annual ECMO reunion. ECMO stands for Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenantion which is essentially a heart lung bypass that allows our most sick patients time to heal by performing their heart and lung functions for them. Nicklaus Children's Hospital has providing patients with this lifesaving technique for more than 20 years.

Patients Medically Evacuated from Puerto Rico to Nicklaus Children's Hospital After Hurricane Maria

octubre 02, 2017 – A week after Hurricane Maria devastated the Island of Puerto Rico as a category five storm, three patients awaiting complex heart surgeries were evacuated for medical reasons from University Children's Hospital in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Nicklaus Children’s for critical care.
