Two dozen former ICU patients had a great time today reuniting with their care teams at the annual ECMO reunion. ECMO stands for Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenantion which is essentially a heart lung bypass that allows our most sick patients time to heal by performing their heart and lung functions for them. Nicklaus Children's Hospital has providing patients with this lifesaving technique for more than 20 years.
