Nicklaus Children's Hospital Honors the Late Dr. Sanjiv Bhatia with Street Dedication

July 11, 2019 – The late Dr. Sanjiv Bhatia, esteemed pediatric neurosurgeon, was honored with a street renaming ceremony at Nicklaus Children's Hospital on Wednesday, July 9. Dr. Bhatia's wife, Dr. Rita Ghose Bhatia and the couple's children, along with former patients and colleagues of the beloved doctor were joined by Miami-Dade County Commissioner Rebeca Sosa to dedicate Southwest 60 Court and 30 Street as "Dr. Sanjiv Bhatia Way."

July 08, 2019 – Nicklaus Children's Health System is evaluated annually by both Fitch, and Standard & Poor’s rating agencies. The health system has received an A+ rating from both agencies since 2015.

Dr. Narendra Kini Resigns from Nicklaus Children's Health System

July 01, 2019 – Dr. Narendra Kini has resigned as CEO of Nicklaus Children’s Health System. Matthew A. Love, current Senior Vice President & Chief Financial Officer, will serve as Interim President and Chief Executive Officer for the health system.

Nicklaus Children's Hospital Opens Special Delivery Unit for High-Risk Infants

May 29, 2019 – This special delivery unit for high-risk infants is located on the hospital's main campus and features five labor and delivery rooms, five antepartum rooms, and two operating rooms. The hospital works with community obstetricians to coordinate a plan of care for the infant before, during and after delivery.

Joseph Nader Elected Vice Chair of Nicklaus Children's Hospital Board of Directors

March 01, 2019 – Joseph Nader, Managing Director and Senior Wealth Advisor for Calamos Wealth Management, LLC, has been elected Vice Chair of the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Board of Directors. Mr. Nader has served in board leadership roles since 2012, including chairing the hospital’s finance and investment committees, responsible for all endowment, insurance and pension plan assets.

Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Achieves Fourth Consecutive Magnet® Recognition for Excellence in Nursing

January 10, 2019 – Nicklaus Children’s Hospital has attained Magnet recognition by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program® for the fourth consecutive term. As of January 2019, Nicklaus Children’s is one of only six children’s hospitals in the nation that have received a fourth Magnet designation.

Dr. Narendra Kini Elected to Serve on Transition Advisory Committee on Health and Wellness

December 13, 2018 – Dr. Narendra Kini, CEO of Nicklaus Children’s Health System, has been elected by Governor-elect Ron DeSantis to serve as an advisor on the Transition Advisory Committee on Health and Wellness, a group of 50 health care experts from a variety of different medical fields across Florida’s health care system.

Neural-Enabled Prosthetic Hand (NEPH) System Developed at FIU restores sensation to first human subject

November 06, 2018 – The NEPH system, developed at Florida International University by Ranu Jung and her Adaptive Neural Systems Laboratory team, restores a sense of touch/grasp force and hand opening by stimulating sensory nerve fibers in the residual limb with fine wires implanted inside nerves. Implantation of the device was performed by Dr. Aaron Berger and his team from Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. Berger is a hand and peripheral nerve surgeon who holds an appointment in FIU’s Department of Biomedical Engineering.

October 24, 2018 – Nicklaus Children's Hospital has been awarded DNV GL Healthcare's Innovation of the Year award for the development and implementation of an automated crash cart management solution that has dramatically enhanced patient care and efficiency at the 309-bed freestanding children’s hospital and its network of outpatient centers.

ENT Surgeon Participates in Mission Trip to Peru
Pediatric ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgeon Dr. Brian Ho recently participated in a mission trip to Cusco, Peru. The trip was organized by Support Our Smiles, a nonprofit comprised of medical professionals who volunteer their time to deliver comprehensive ENT care to underserved children around the world. Dr. Ho, in collaboration with colleagues from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Hospital of Georgia, evaluated more than 100 children, performed more than 20 surgeries, visited a school for hearing-impaired children and conducted approximately 50 hearing tests. Dr. Ho looks forward to returning to Cusco for another mission trip this September.
