John M. Lie-Nielsen and Drew Kern Appointed to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Board

Mr. John M. Lie-Nielsen and Mr. Drew Kern have been appointed to serve on the board of directors of Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, providing guidance to the 289-bed nonprofit pediatric specialty hospital and its network of outpatient centers. Both will provide leadership on the board’s Marketing and Hospitality Committee, with Mr. Lie-Nielsen serving as committee chair.

Jaret Davis Elected Chair of Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Board of Directors

Mr. Jaret Davis , Co-Managing Shareholder of the Miami office of the international law firm of Greenberg Traurig P.A., has been elected 2018 chair of the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital board of directors. The 19-member panel oversees the operations of the 289-bed nonprofit pediatric subspecialty hospital and its network of outpatient centers extending from southern Miami-Dade to Palm Beach County.

Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Horizon Nurse Residency Program Earns Accreditation with Distinction from American Nurses Credentialing Center

The Horizon Nurse Residency Program has achieved accreditation with distinction from the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC). Accreditation with Distinction is the highest recognition bestowed by the ANCC’s Commission on Accreditation and an honor that no other children’s hospital on the east coast of the U.S. currently holds.

Anselmo Cepero-Akselrad, MD, has been elected vice president of the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Medical Executive Committee (MEC) for a two-year term. The committee serves as the governing body for the hospital’s 800-member medical staff.

New treatment labeled “a game changer” for patients with diabetes

Nicklaus Children’s Palm Beach Gardens Outpatient Center kicked off National Diabetes Month by introducing a new treatment option for children with Type 1 diabetes. Colton Smith, age 16, is one of the first patients in the nation to use a new hybrid closed loop system to monitor his glucose levels.

Miami Children’s Health System to be Renamed Nicklaus Children’s Health System

Miami Children’s Health System will undergo a name change to align the health system with the branding and identity of its flagship, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. The health system will become Nicklaus Children’s Health System in recognition of the continued support from the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation and its founders, golf icon Jack Nicklaus and his wife Barbara.

A week after Hurricane Maria devastated the Island of Puerto Rico as a category five storm, three patients awaiting complex heart surgeries were evacuated for medical reasons from University Children's Hospital in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Nicklaus Children’s for critical care.
