Miami, FL — Miami-Dade County Schools has chosen Lynn Heyman, Director of Community and Volunteer Resources for Miami Children’s Hospital, as its “School-to-Career Business Coordinator of the Year.” The award honors an individual who has provided exceptional support to the school system’s School-to-Career Partner Program.
Ms. Heyman has served for seven years coordinating the hospital’s Kids and the Power of Work (KAPOW) partnership with Coral Gables Elementary School. Each year, Ms. Heyman identifies and prepares more than 18 volunteers who each devote more than 30 classroom hours to promoting career awareness and readiness. She also developed a program to maximize the impact of student visits to the hospital and helped secure hospital contributions to the KAPOW program.
In addition, Ms. Heyman two years ago developed a KAPOW partnership with Perrine Elementary School. This program is supported by staff at the Miami Children’s South Dade Center in Palmetto Bay.
“We are very proud of Ms. Heyman’s leadership in our community,” said Thomas M. Rozek, President and CEO of Miami Children’s Hospital. “Her commitment will help children better understand the workplace and the skills needed to succeed in that environment.”
Miami Children’s Hospital, founded in 1950, is the only licensed specialty hospital for children in South Florida. The 268-bed medical complex offers comprehensive medical care and services for children from birth to age 21.
