Patient of the Month: Adam

marzo 31, 2025 – At three, Adam's family moved to Florida, where they started fresh with a new medical team for his stage four Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). At Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, Adam received expert care from a multidisciplinary team of specialists from Nicklaus Children’s Division of Nephrology, Division of Endocrinology, and Division of Gastroenterology, all who helped him overcome various health issues and be where he is today.

Patients of the Month: Crane Twins

diciembre 30, 2024 – Born prematurely, twin brothers Benjamin and Emilio have faced health challenges since birth. Parents Maria Paula and Francisco’s concerns intensified when one twin’s stomach became grossly distended. Within a year, both boys were diagnosed with Hirschsprung’s disease, a rare congenital condition with only 21 known cases in identical twins, that negatively impacts the colon. Thanks to the team at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital’s Colorectal Center, the twins underwent life-changing surgery.

Nephrology and Gastroenterology Research Roundup

abril 22, 2025 – In recognition of World Kidney Month in March and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Awareness Month in April, this month’s Research Roundup is dedicated to the incredible research being conducted in Nephrology and Gastroenterology. Research in these departments is advancing pediatric medicine affecting thousands of children in the U.S. diagnosed with rare disorders like Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and school-aged children reporting IBS-like symptoms.

Atención integral para afecciones colorrectales pediátricas

noviembre 07, 2024 – Cuando los administradores y los médicos del Nicklaus Children's Hospital realizaron una encuesta del panorama médico pediátrico en 2017, identificaron carencias en cuanto a la atención colorrectal. Había especialistas disponibles, pero no estaban consolidados dentro de un programa integral. En respuesta, reunieron sus recursos humanos y tecnológicos y desarrollaron el Centro Colorrectal de Nicklaus Children's. El programa se lanzó en 2018 y se ha convertido en un centro de derivación dentro de Florida y más allá, con muchos pacientes que viajan desde América Latina y el Caribe.
