Agency for Persons with Disabilities APD

In October 2004, the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) became an agency separate from the Department of Children and Families, specifically tasked with serving the needs of Floridians with developmental disabilities. Prior to that time, it existed as the Developmental Disabilities Program. Children's Bereavement Center

Grief Support Groups for the Entire Family Welcoming children, teens, young adults and families seeking support after the loss of a loved one. In partnership with VITAS Healthcare, the free Peer Support Groups run across Miami-Dade and Broward County. Children's Medical Services

Children’s Medical Services provides a broad range of medical, therapeutic and supportive services to children with special health care needs and their families. These services focus on helping children to grow up healthy by providing prevention and early intervention services, primary care, medical and therapeutic specialty care, and long term care. Early Steps

Early Steps, within Children's Medical Services, serves families with infants and toddlers, birth to 36 months of age, who have developmental delays or an established condition likely to result in a developmental delay.  Each child receives an Individualized Family Support Plan (IFSP) that meets his or her needs. Florida Kid Care

Through Florida KidCare, the state of Florida offers health insurance for children from birth through age 18, even if one or both parents are working. It includes four different parts. When you apply for the insurance, Florida KidCare will check which part your child may qualify for based on age and family income.

  • MEDIKIDS: children ages 1 through 4
  • HEALTHY KIDS: children ages 5 through 18
  • CHILDREN’S MEDICAL SERVICES NETWORK: children birth through 18 who have special health care needs
