“Brittany nació hace 22 años con un defecto cardíaco, que representaba una amenaza para su vida, llamado doble vía de salida del ventrículo derecho. Cuando nació, la internaron en el Nicklaus Children's Hospital, anteriormente Miami Children's Hospital, porque necesitaba una cirugía de inmediato para salvarle la vida. Debido a su complejo problema, necesitó otras tres operaciones de corazón en los siete años posteriores. Brittany aún lucha con su defecto cardíaco y va al Nicklaus Children's Hospital para consultas de seguimiento. Recientemente, sus médicos decidieron ponerle un marcapasos para regular su corazón. Brittany hoy está viva gracias a los increíbles cardiólogos y cirujanos del Nicklaus Children's Hospital, anteriormente Miami Children's Hospital. New Florida Heart Law Highlights the Importance of EKG Screenings for Student-Athletes

julio 09, 2026 – Starting with the 2026-2027 school year, Florida’s Second Chance Act will require many high school student-athletes to complete a one-time electrocardiogram, or EKG, before participating in sports governed by the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA). The new requirement is intended to help detect hidden heart conditions that may increase a young athlete’s risk for sudden cardiac arrest.
