Director, Gastroenterology Outpatient Services Pediatric Gastroenterologist
Dr. Gonzalez-Vallina is employed by Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists, the physician-led multispecialty group practice of Nicklaus Children’s Health System. He has been on staff with the Division of Gastroenterology at Nicklaus Children's Hospital since 1994 and brings to the health system specialized training in hepatology and nutrition. Dr. Gonzalez-Vallina is currently director of gastroenterology outpatient services, a member of the hospital's Medical Executive Committee and an assistant clinical professor at Florida International University's Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. He also served on the hospital's board of directors as vice president of the medical staff for the 2008-2011 term. Dr. Gonzalez-Vallina earned his medical degree from Universidad Central Del Este, Dominican Republic. He completed his pediatric residency at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, followed by a fellowship in gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition at the University of Chicago Medicine's Comer Children's Hospital (formerly Wyler Children's Hospital). Dr. Gonzalez-Vallina is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric gastroenterology. He is a member of the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease, American Gastroenterological Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics. His clinical interests include pediatric liver transplantation, celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease and nutrition.
Dr. Gonzalez-Vallina has lectured nationally and internationally and gained recognition with consistent rankings and awards for clinical excellence, including five consecutive America's Best Doctors awards. He also was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation by members of Congress in Washington, D.C. An active member of both the South Florida and greater pediatric communities, Dr. Gonzalez-Vallina served as president of the Miami-based Cuban Pediatric Society, sits on the boards of national pediatric-focused nonprofits and is also involved with various international humanitarian efforts.
Dr. Gonzalez-Vallina will continue to see patients at his office in Miami and remain on staff at Nicklaus Children's Hospital. He is bilingual in English and Spanish.
