What are sports injuries?
A wide variety of accidents and injuries are common during athletic participation. These can include fractures, sprains and strains, muscle problems, joint injuries and many others.
What causes sports injuries?
Some sports injuries are due to direct impacts to the body in sports such as football or hockey. Others are due to repetitive motion in sports like running or baseball.
What are the symptoms of sports injuries?
Symptoms of sports injuries can vary widely. Common issues that occur are pain and limited range of motion. In some cases, more severe symptoms can arise.
What are sports injuries care options?
For minor injuries, the old adage of RICE can apply. This stands for rest, ice, compression and elevation. Over-the-counter pain relievers can also be helpful for minor injuries. Splints, casts, braces, orthotics and surgery are other treatment options, depending on the severity of the injury.
