What is a rotator cuff injury?
The collection of tendons and muscles that surround the shoulder joint and hold the joint in position are known as the rotator cuff. Rotator cuff injuries can take a variety of forms, including tears, tendinitis from overuse, impingement and more.
What causes rotator cuff injury?
In some cases, an accident or a direct blow to the area can lead to a rotator cuff injury. Other times, repetitive motions such as throwing or weightlifting can lead to rotator cuff injuries.
What are the symptoms of rotator cuff injury?
Common symptoms of rotator cuff injuries can include pain, loss of range of motion, arm weakness and difficulty sleeping.
What are rotator cuff injury care options?
If the injury is minor, pain relievers, rest, ice and physical therapy may help with recovery. In the case of more rotator cuff injury, surgery is often needed to repair the damage to the shoulder.
