Jonanlis Ramirez Alcantara, MD, FAAP

Dr. Jonanlis Ramirez Alcantara is a pediatric endocrinologist within the Division of Endocrinology at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. She pursued a fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical school in Boston. Her clinical interests include obesity, thyroid disorders, adrenal insufficiency, growth disorders, and diabetes. She is considered one of the world's experts in adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD). 
 

Dr. Ramirez Alcantara was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She graduated magna cum laude in medicine from the Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) in the Dominican Republic, the first university in the American continent founded in 1538. She completed a residency in pediatrics at Lincoln Medical Center, affiliated with Weill Cornell University Medical College in New York City. She was appointed chief resident during her last year of residency.  

Dr. Ramirez Alcantara is board certified in general pediatrics and pediatric endocrinology. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and member of the Massachusetts Medical Society, Pediatric Endocrine Society, and American Diabetes Association. Her research has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals and she has presented at medical conferences.  

Dr. Ramirez Alcantara is employed by Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists (NCPS), the physician-led multispecialty medical group practice of Nicklaus Children’s Health System. She is bilingual in English and Spanish. 

The Division of Endocrinology at Nicklaus Children's Hospital offers a complete array of diagnostic, treatment, and consulting services for infants, children, and adolescents with endocrine disorders. The care team is dedicated to fulfilling the medical and support needs of children and their families through a multidisciplinary approach that has helped children from around the world. Consultations with the division’s board-certified endocrinologists are offered at the hospital’s main campus near Coral Gables, as well as at select Nicklaus Children’s outpatient centers located from southern Miami-Dade to Martin counties.
