William Mak, DO, MS, FAAP
Pediatric Emergency Medicine Specialist 


Dr. William Mak is a board-certified emergency medicine specialist and provides care in the Emergency Department at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Miami and Baptist Hospital. He earned his medical degree from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine in Glen Head. Dr. Mak completed a residency in pediatrics at Stony Brook University Hospital in New York, followed by a master’s of science degree in medical management at the University of Rochester. He went on to complete a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center and pediatric emergency ultrasound at Cohen Children’s Medical Center/Schneider Children's Hospital in New York. Dr. Mak’s clinical interests are in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) and simulation.

Dr. Mak is board certified in general pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the P2 Network and Society for Clinical Ultrasound Fellowships. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and he has presented at various medical conferences.

Dr. Mak is employed by Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists (NCPS), the multispecialty medical group practice of Nicklaus Children’s Health System.

The Emergency Department at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital is one of the most visited emergency rooms in the nation and has a team of board-certified and fellowship-trained attending pediatric specialists and subspecialists on call, 24 hours a day. To continue to be a leader in ensuring patient satisfaction, the entire staff continually devises and implements strategies to reduce patient waiting time, enhance the waiting room atmosphere and improve the delivery of care for patients and families. The Emergency Department is also home to the Miguel "Mike" B. Fernandez Family Pediatric Trauma Center, the only freestanding Level I pediatric trauma center in South Florida. An adjoining helipad enhances the facility’s ability to handle incoming traumas, as well as transfers from other hospitals.
