Also known as: Becker muscular dystrophy, BMD
Becker's muscular dystrophy is a disorder that causes the muscles of the pelvis and legs to get gradually weaker over time. This can lead to a number of complications as the disease progresses.
Becker's muscular dystrophy is a genetic disorder that can be passed along from carrier mothers to their male children.
As the disease progresses, people will eventually experience trouble walking or moving, frequent falls, loss of muscle and weakness in other areas of the body, as well.
While there is no cure for the disease, physical therapy, exercises and orthopedic devices can help people with the condition live the most fulfilling life possible.
