Ignacio is Breathing and Living Stronger

March 13, 2026 – Ignacio was born with a rare congenital anomaly on his tracheal rings. He remained undiagnosed of his condition until he was evaluated for sleep apnea at 8 years old. The ENT specialists at Nicklaus Children's Hospital were able to diagnose the source of his breathing obstruction, snoring, and nasal congestion and performed a surgery to open his airways and widen his trachea.

Tiny but Mighty: 1.2LB Baby Girl Leaves NICU After Three Months

Just a few days after baby girl Pierson was born, when she still weighed only 1.2 lb, a small catheter was placed through her vein to deliver a tiny device to treat her congenital heart defect all while she remained in her incubator.

January 26, 2026 – At only seven years old, Megan underwent aggressive cancer treatment that included infusions and chemotherapy and lasted about two years.

December 19, 2025 – What began as persistent pain in his knee led to a cancer diagnosis that altered Tristan’s life forever.

October 22, 2025 – While enjoying a day on the water, Katy was involved in a devastating boating accident that left her with a traumatic brain injury. Within moments, her family’s world was turned upside down.

Liv and Eva are Living Life to the Fullest

September 26, 2025 – Sisters Liv and Eva suffered from debilitating abdominal pain and inflammation.  After frequent trips to the emergency room became a part of their routine and countless doctor visits, they found hope at Nicklaus Children's with the groundbreaking IB-STIM treatment.

How Nicklaus Children’s and Baptist Health Heart & Vascular Care Came Together to Save Elizabeth

September 10, 2025 – After a bike fall, Elizabeth experienced an abdominal pain so intense her family called 911. Upon arrival by ambulance doctors soon discovered the accident had ruptured her liver, causing significant blood loss but this was just the beginning.

Meet Bria the Miracle

September 03, 2025 – Twins Akia and Bria were born at just 34 weeks with one major difference - Bria was born with OEIS Syndrome, also known as Cloacal Exstrophy. After spending her first five days in the NICU under the care of our pediatric surgeon and pediatric urologist, Bria received her first abdominal reconstruction surgery.

September 01, 2025 – Experiencing pain and hindering her from everyday activities, A’mya’s future remained uncertain. Her family turned to experts at Nicklaus Children’s Orthopedic, Sports Medicine & Spine Institute for answers and thanks to a tailored care plan, A’mya’s life changed for the better after several surgeries.

Patient of the Month: Jalen

July 30, 2025 – What appeared to be a minor knee injury turned into a serious condition for Jalen. Fearing this would end his basketball dreams, Jalen and his family sought expert care at Nicklaus Children’s Orthopedic, Sports Medicine & Spine Institute and found not only, but that they had a whole team supporting them through this journey.

Patient of the Month: Naomi

June 30, 2025 – Diagnosed with scoliosis at six years old, Naomi has been fighting hard to prevent further curvature of her spine. After years of trying various treatment options, and with puberty causing greater curve progression, Naomi and her family sought other treatment options. It was at Nicklaus Children’s Orthopedic, Sports Medicine & Spine Institute where Naomi and her family found comfort and hope.

Patient of the Month: Jack

May 29, 2025 – Kimberly's pregnancy was going well until a 20-week anatomy scan revealed concerns for her baby boy. After this initial shock, the family turned to The Prenatal Heart Program at Nicklaus Children's Heart Institute for further evaluation.

Sebastian’s Journey to Bottle Feeding

May 22, 2025 – For the Rodriguez-Bacero family, Sebastian’s birth was filled with mixed emotions when they unexpectedly learned their precious baby boy was born with Pierre Robin sequence, a rare condition characterized by a small lower jaw, a tongue far back in the mouth, and difficulty breathing.

Patient of the Month: Mark

April 30, 2025 – It is difficult for Mark, a non-verbal young man living with Autism, to communicate his ailments. But after a visit to the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Emergency Room (E.R.), Mark’s life changed for the better. This one visit led him to a specialized team of physicians from the Division of Gastroenterology and the Undiagnosed Disease Clinic which would provide more insight into Mark’s overall health.

Caring for Matthew: Managing a Very Rare Disease

April 03, 2025 – Matthew was diagnosed with Phelan-McDermid Syndrome (PMS), a rare genetic disorder that affects development, speech, and cognitive ability, and requires extensive medical care and round-the-clock support. Despite his challenges, Matthew radiates love and joy, and his family is advocating for increased awareness of PMS while seeking potential treatments for the condition.

Patient of the Month: Adam

March 31, 2025 – At three, Adam's family moved to Florida, where they started fresh with a new medical team for his stage four Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). At Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, Adam received expert care from a multidisciplinary team of specialists from Nicklaus Children’s Division of Nephrology, Division of Endocrinology, and Division of Gastroenterology, all who helped him overcome various health issues and be where he is today.

Luigi's Journey Toward a Better Tomorrow

March 31, 2025 – Luigi's parents faced fear and uncertainty when their son was diagnosed with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and severe seizures at six months old. Thanks to the compassionate care and innovative treatments at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, Luigi has made remarkable progress, and his family has opened a PPEC facility to support other families navigating similar challenges.

Jamie's Heart Saved Thanks to a Free EKG Screening

March 25, 2025 – Jamie was found to have a heart condition thanks to a free EKG screening held at a City of Miami summer camp in 2024. Nicklaus Children’s and the City of Miami joined forces to extend the hospitals free EKG screenings program to children in City of Miami parks. Jamie’s heart was repaired in the hospital’s cardiac catheterization laboratory and his family can feel comforted in knowing his heart is healthy.

Lily Shines a Light on the Importance of Early Detection of Neuromotor Delays

March 12, 2025 – Lily, age 2 ½, is walking independently and making remarkable progress, thanks to rehabilitative intervention at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and an early diagnosis of cerebral palsy.
