Patient of the Month: Charlie

After surviving a high-risk pregnancy with a set of twins, the Strombom’s were faced with yet another complication. Their third child, an unborn baby named Charlie, was diagnosed with a congenital pulmonary airway malformation (CPAM) and underwent two in utero interventions to allow for a full and healthy gestation period. Once delivered, the LifeFlight team from Nicklaus Children’s Hospital was on stand-by to transport Charlie from West Palm Beach to Miami.


Patient of the Month: Frankie

What was supposed to be a fun day for Frankie and his sister with their uncle quickly took an unexpected and tragic turn. Frankie was kicked in the head by a horse at the ranch they were visiting, and he suffered a traumatic brain injury. 

Service Excellence Employee Recognition Awards

More than 30 employees were recognized for going “above and beyond” their duties to deliver an outstanding experience to patient families and colleagues alike at the 2017 Annual Service Excellence Employee Recognition Awards celebration, held on Tuesday, December 19.   

Annual Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenantion (ECMO) Reunion

Two dozen former ICU patients had a great time today reuniting with their care teams at the annual ECMO reunion. ECMO stands for Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenantion which is essentially a heart lung bypass that allows our most sick patients time to heal by performing their heart and lung functions for them. Nicklaus Children's Hospital has providing patients with this lifesaving technique for more than 20 years.

Nicklaus Children's Opens Specialized Unit to Treat Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C)

May 26, 2020 – Nicklaus Children’s Hospital has resumed regular operations and is adapting operations to meet the current healthcare needs of children in South Florida. The hospital has developed a highly specialized four-bed unit-within-a-unit for treatment of children with multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C), a complex disorder that is affecting youngsters worldwide during the COVID-19 pandemic.
