Miami Children’s Hospital (MCH) hosted its 50th Annual Commencement Exercise for Pediatric Residents and Fellows at the Biltmore Hotel on June 23, honoring 22 pediatric residents and 10 pediatric subspecialty fellows who completed the hospital’s medical education program. Jay E. Berkelhamer, M.D., President of the American Academy of Pediatrics, was on hand and served as the commencement’s keynote speaker.
Miami Children’s Hospital has been training pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists for more than 50 years. The hospital is proud to offer the largest pediatric teaching program in the southeastern United States, providing training for 66 pediatric residents and 17 subspecialty fellows annually.
The MCH Pediatric Residency Program offers experience in all facets of pediatric care from the most complex intensive care to the office practice of general pediatrics. The medical staff includes more than 110 specialists representing over 40 pediatric specialties and sub-specialties in a hospital complex that houses 275 beds and provides numerous community-outreach programs.
The three-year residency training program in pediatrics is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), with participation limited to 66 residents and two chief residents. In addition, fellowships in varying specialties are offered. The focus of the medical education program is to prepare residents for a lifetime of quality practice either in primary care pediatrics or in the subspecialty of their choosing.
