MIAMI, FL — Enrique Escalon, MD, Director of the Miami Children's Hospital Cancer Center, has been appointed to a three-year term as Cancer Liaison Physician in affiliation with the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Escalon is among a national network of more than 1,600 volunteer Cancer Liaison Physicians who provide leadership and support to the CoC Approvals Program, and other Commission on Cancer activities at their local facility. He is the Principal Investigator of Miami Children's Hospital in the Children's Oncology Group (C.O.G.), a prestigious national research group and has served the children with cancer in the South Florida community for the last 30 years.
The CoC is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to reducing the morbidity and mortality of cancer through education, setting of standards and monitoring quality of cancer care. Cancer Liaison Physicians are responsible for fostering and communicating CoC initiatives at the facility level and for coordinating community outreach activities in conjunction with the cancer committee.
The Cancer Center at Miami Children’s Hospital is the region’s largest and most comprehensive cancer center for children. The Cancer Center has been providing care for children with blood disorders for more than 25 years.
