Nicklaus Children's Hospital seeks to harness the healing power of art to continue inspiring hope and promoting lifelong health to every child. Miami-Dade and Broward artists are invited to submit proposals for our 2026 Arts in Healing Residency Program.
For 75 years, Nicklaus Children's has stood as a beacon of hope for children and families across the state of Florida and beyond. Nicklaus Children's Hospital is South Florida's #1 nonprofit, freestanding specialty licensed hospital exclusively for children serving close to 70 percent of children in the Miami metropolitan community.
The Arts in Healing Residency program at Nicklaus Children's Hospital is made possible by the Taft Foundation, who seeks to enhance the wellbeing of children facing serious illness.
Program Overview
The Arts in Healing Residency program at Nicklaus Children's Hospital will continue the legacy of its mission by fostering therapeutic recreational experiences that encourage wellness through creativity. During a 6-month period, three (3) artists will engage with Nicklaus Children's patients in a series of art workshops, culminating in a community showcase.
Eligibility
- Various artistic disciplines are welcomed: performing, visual, and literary
- Open to artists residing in Miami-Dade and Broward County
- Open to artists 18 and older, of all experience levels
- Art workshops must be youth-appropriate
- Artists must have a demonstrated proficiency in the proposed art mediums
- Must submit proposal by November 15, 2025
- Artists must be available to begin residency January 2026
Program Guidelines
A total of three (3) artists will be selected upon conclusion of the submission window.
- Artists will guide and engage Nicklaus Children's patients in a series of group workshops over a 6-month period in the hospital setting, beginning January 2026.
- Art workshops will be a duration of one (1) hour and occur on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.
- Art workshops will take place in the hospital setting.
- Artists should be comfortable engaging with participants of all ages, including both children and their caregivers.
- Art workshops can range in size as attendance will vary.
- At the conclusion of the residency, an art exhibit will take place to showcase the completed works.
Program goals and outcomes are intended to:
- Allow youth to explore an artistic medium in a supportive environment
- Give youth the opportunity to produce a work of art
- Increase a sense of empowerment and wellness
- Reduce anxiety in participants
Residency Period, Compensation, Artist Support
Beginning in January 2026, the Arts in Healing Residency will span over 6 months. During this time, each artist will receive a stipend of $2,500 per month over the 6-month period.
Nicklaus Children's Hospital will provide funding support for the workshop supplies and secure material in advance of the workshop dates in consultation with the artist. Supply requests must be included in the proposal. Please detail what specific items are needed and how material will be used to promote the program's goals.
Programmatic support will also be available through the Arts in Healing Coordinator and Children & Family Experience team.
Selection Process
A committee of Arts in Healing stakeholders will review proposals and select the artist-in-residence based on alignment with the residency's goals of promoting wellness through creativity. Submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the positions are filled. Please allow up to four (4) weeks after the submission deadline to hear back about proposal status.

Interested artists should submit proposals to Arts in Healing Program Coordinator by emailing jeaneth.jaramillo@nicklaushealth.org. Please include “Artist Proposal” in the subject line.
Submissions must include:
- Your name, address, e-mail and phone number.
- A proposed workshop title and brief description of the workshop. Please include how the workshop intends to meet the program goals and outcomes.
- A detailed list of materials/equipment required for the workshop.
- A brief artist biography; include any relevant experience working with youth.
- A CV including any past community engagement.
- Photos, images or videos to serve as support material, to help us understand the proposed project and/or the artistic style and medium.

Conditional Criteria
All artist selections made by the Artist in Residence Selection Committee are contingent upon completion of contractor paperwork from Nicklaus Children's Hospital. Artists must agree to comply with all rules and regulations for on-campus visitors, including:
- Contractor Agreement
- Background Check
- Cleared Drug Screen
- Provide copy of License and DOB for security screening to receive badge
- Vaccine Immunization Attestation Forms or Exemptions
