When a 9-year-old boy collapsed from sudden cardiac arrest at Joella C. Good Elementary School in Hialeah, recently trained teachers sprang into action without hesitation. Their school had just become certified Heart Safe through Project ADAM South Florida, let by Nicklaus Children's Hospital Heart Institute team.
Staff member Jorge Parra attached the defibrillator, and it took only one shock to revive the child. The student survived and continues to receive care at Nicklaus Children's Heart Institute.
