A Fetal Care special maternity unit will be housed on the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital campus for infants, diagnosed with a medical condition during pregnancy. Deliveries will be planned and coordinated with community physicians. This special delivery unit will offer a smooth transfer of care and access to our network of pediatric subspecialists and three Beacon Award recognized pediatric intensive care units: neonatal, cardiac, and pediatric intensive care (for newborns requiring extracorporeal membrane oxygenation).
The Fetal Care Unit will be located on the second floor of the main hospital building (within close proximity from the operating room):
- 5 Labor and Delivery Rooms
- 5 Antepartum rooms
- Fetal Operating Room and C-section room
- Family Waiting Area
Nicklaus Children’s Hospital’s Fetal Care Center offers comprehensive medical services to support families expecting a neonate with congenital differences, including heart defects, neurological conditions, craniofacial anomalies and other conditions with the aim of reducing family stress and anxiety associated with complex-care management.
