When 18-year-old Lorenzo Blackshear collapsed from sudden cardiac arrest during basketball practice at Somerset Academy High School in Pembroke Pines, his survival came down to seconds and proper training. Thanks to Project ADAM South Florida led by the Nicklaus Children's Hospital Heart Institute, school staff were prepared to act fast.
Teacher and paramedic Andrew Vega immediately began CPR after finding no pulse, following emergency protocols learned through Project ADAM training. Lorenzo spent eight days at Nicklaus Children's for recovery and is back to normal activites.
