About Nicklaus Children’s Hospital

Founded in 1950 by Variety Clubs International, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital is South Florida’s only licensed specialty hospital exclusively for children, with nearly 800 attending physicians and more than 475 pediatric subspecialists. The 289-bed hospital – known as Miami Children’s Hospital from 1983 through 2014 – is renowned for excellence in all aspects of pediatric medicine, with many programs routinely ranked among the nation’s best by U.S. News & World Report. ​The medical staff, employees and volunteers of Nicklaus Children’s Hospital mourn the passing of our esteemed Dr. Moises Simpser, a longstanding leader and dedicated champion for children with complex medical conditions and their families.
VACC Camp Founder Dr. Moises Simpser Honored as Namesake
Dr. Moises Simpser, pediatric pulmonologist at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, founded the nation’s first Ventilator Assisted Children’s Center (VACC) Camp 1986. In honor of Dr. Simpser’s leadership, Nicklaus Children’s medical staff has renamed the camp with his name.
