"We were on vacation in Orlando when our son Kai, who was 15 weeks old, started having fits. He was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, where they discovered a rare and dangerous heart defect. The doctors said Kai needed to be airlifted to Nicklaus Children's Hospital, formerly Miami Children's Hospital, as soon as possible as they didn’t know how long he had left to live before his heart stopped working. That same night, a helicopter came to take Kai to Miami, while we drove down with our other three children. Early the next morning, we met Dr. Redmond Burke, who explained to us what was going to happen in surgery.
On 18 September 2003 (my birthday), Dr. Burke performed corrective surgery, which has been a great success. Kai had the best care before, during and after his operation. We spent about seven weeks in Miami and our 2003 vacation to the USA will be one that we will not forget. Thank you to all the staff at Arnold Palmer Hospital and Nicklaus Children's Hospital, formerly Miami Children's Hospital, for saving the life of our son.”
