Ashley underwent surgery in May 2007. Within days, the determined 11-year-old was on her feet and by August she had resumed swimming. “I think I’ve gotten stronger as a result of the experience,” said the busy sixth grader, whose schedule includes cheerleading, basketball and volleyball.

Jamie, an avid golf player, was diagnosed with scoliosis. At first, she thought that she might not ever be able to return to the game, but thanks to Dr. Shufflebarger, she underwent spinal fusion surgery and was able to continue with her favorite sport.

“When I was eight years of age I was diagnosed with scoliosis which is an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine. I was diagnosed with scoliosis and as I grew older it got worse and so I had surgery with one of the best doctors in Nicklaus Children's Hospital, formerly Miami Children's Hospital, named Dr. Shufflebarger. Until this very day I still see him for my annually visits and after undergoing surgery two years ago I can honestly say that I look and feel great and have no regrets.”
