Patient of the Month: Adam

At three, Adam's family moved to Florida, where they started fresh with a new medical team for his stage four Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). At Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, Adam received expert care from a multidisciplinary team of specialists from Nicklaus Children’s Division of Nephrology, Division of Endocrinology, and Division of Gastroenterology, all who helped him overcome various health issues and be where he is today. Patient of the Month: Bradley

After being transferred via LifeFlight ambulance to Nicklaus Children's Hospital shortly after birth, Bradley was placed on medication to help control his overproduction of insulin. After tests showed he suffered from diffused white matter damage, aggressive intervention was required. Overcoming countless challenges, 54 days later Bradley graduated out of the NICU and was able to continue healing at home. Read this story.

New treatment labeled "a game changer" for patients with diabetes

Nicklaus Children’s Palm Beach Gardens Outpatient Center kicked off National Diabetes Month by introducing a new treatment option for children with Type 1 diabetes, the Medtronic MiniMed 670G system, sometimes called an “artificial pancreas,” consistently measures blood sugar, predicts when a rise or fall is going to occur, and adjusts itself to deliver precise doses of insulin, requiring minimal interaction from the patient. At the age of 6, Dayana's life changed forever when she was diagnosed with diabetes. She didn’t immediately know what that meant, but the realization that the rest of her life would consist of finger pricks and monitoring her sugar level was a hard one. Read this story.

Cristina's Diabetes Success Story

At the age of eleven Cristina was sent to the Variety Children’s Hospital ER for severe dehydration and other related symptoms. She was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes - juvenile diabetes in the ER. She was saved that day from a severe diabetic coma. Read this story.
