Loop Recorder Implantation

Also known as: Loop recorder implant, implantable loop recorder.

What is loop recorder implantation?

Loop recorder implantation is the procedure used to install a loop recorder in the body. A loop recorder is a device that measures the heart’s electrical activity. It activates if the heart rate gets too low or too high and begins to record the heart rate.

What happens during the procedure?

Doctors use local anesthesia and make an incision beside the breastbone for the recorder. A pocket is formed under the skin, and the recorder is placed inside the pocket. Then the pocket is closed with dissolvable skin glue.

Is any special preparation needed?

You may need to avoid food or drink on the day of the procedure. You may also be advised to stop taking certain medications.

What are the risk factors?

Bleeding or swelling at the insertion site are the main risks. The implantation is generally safe.
