“My name is Earl and I was a former patient at Nicklaus Children's Hospital. In 1958, my mother brought me to Miami from Waycross, GA. I suffered from severe problems after being struck by a car in Waycross where we lived at the time. I was brought to what was known at that time as the Variety Children’s Hospital. My mother was a single parent and was told prior to coming that I would never walk again. I was diagnosed with Polio. Through the efforts of all involved and the love and care that I received from the hospital and staff members, I am now a fifty nine year old healthy and walking African American male. I roller blade six miles and I own my own business here in Miami. So I would like to offer my sincerest apology for never coming back or saying thank you to the Nicklaus Children's Hospital foundation. Again thank you so much and I am so sorry that it took me this long. God Bless you all!"
