Pediatric Specialty Surgical Services

General Pediatric Surgery

Pediatric General Surgery is a recognized subspeciality that provides surgical intervention for children ranging from newborns to teens and requires two years of pediatric-specific surgical training after achieving board certification in general surgery. These specialists have particular experience in the repair of birth defects, solid tumor management, chest wall repair and surgical care of child victims of trauma. The Nicklaus Children's pediatric surgical team has been a leader in offering minimally invasive methods, including "incisionless" surgery through the navel.

Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery

The cardiovaascular surgeons at Nicklaus Children's perform complex surgeries for children from birth to age 21 with congenital heart disease. The hospital's cardiology and cardiovascular surgery program is routinely ranked among the best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.

Pediatric Craniofacial Surgery

Nicklaus Children's Hospital is home to the region's only state-designated Craniofacial Center. This program offers comprehensive care for infants, children and young adults with craniofacial disorders. The program's internationally recognized craniofacial surgeons provide treatment for children with a board range of facial anomalies, including those associated with cleft lip and palate, Pierre Robin sequence, Apert syndrome, Crouzon syndrome and more.

Pediatric Neurosurgery

The pediatric neurosurgeons at Nicklaus Children's perform complex surgeries for children with brain injuries, tumors and cysts as well as for children requiring treatment for medically resistant epilepsy. The hospital's pediatric neurology and neurosurgery program is routinely ranked among the very top tier programs in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, and receives patients from all over the world.

Pediatric Ophthalmic Surgery

Pediatric ophthalmic surgeons at Nicklaus Children's specialize in surgical treatments for children with eye abnormalities, including, cataracts, strabismus, amblyopia, congenital malformations of the lids and eyes, infantile and childhood glaucoma, ocular injuries, ocular tumors and neuro-ophthalmic causes of visual loss.

Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery

Nicklaus Children's Department of Orthopedic Surgery performs more pediatric orthopedic surgeries than any other program in Florida. The department includes experts in full range of orthopedic surgical procedures, including fracture care, spinal surgery, sports medicine, limb deformities and hip preservation.

Pediatric Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

The hospital's Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery offers surgical treatment and reconstruction for children with congenital anomalies and well as children who have been disfigured due to trauma.

Pediatric Urologic Surgery

Nicklaus Children's Division of Urology includes surgeons who specialize in treatment of anomalies of the urinary and genital tracts in children. These surgeons are among the most experienced in the region and the team has taken part in many complex procedures, including supporting the separation of conjoined twins.

Pediatric Anesthesia Services

Children's responses to anesthesia are different from those of adults. Nicklaus Children's has 14 pediatric anesthesiologists who provide regional and general anesthesia for children undergoing medical procedures. These specialists provide care exclusively for children and are the region's most experienced in serving the population from birth to age 21.
