Comprehensive Care Center for Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH)

The only designated comprehensive care center for CAH by the CARES Foundation in Florida.

At Nicklaus Children’s, we’re dedicated to providing compassionate care for children and teens living with Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH). CAH is a complex genetic disorder in which the adrenal glands do not function properly. Nicklaus Children's Division of Pediatric Endocrinology is recognized as a Comprehensive Care Center for Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia by the CARES Foundation.

Due to the complexity of CAH, our comprehensive care center brings together specialists in endocrinology, urology, psychology, social work, genetics, nutrition, radiology, and dermatology. This collaborative approach ensures that every child receives personalized, seamless care — from diagnosis through adolescence and beyond. To support a smooth transition into adulthood, we also work closely with the Division of Adult Endocrinology at the University of Miami, providing continuity and peace of mind for families.

Comprehensive and Seamless Care for Children with CAH

Patients are typically seen every three to four months, depending on their individual needs. During each visit, the care team evaluates which specialists may be helpful for the child, and determines whether any referrals are needed. If referrals are necessary, our center coordinator will assist in scheduling those appointments. The coordinator also supports families by helping arrange consultations with adolescent-focused providers, when needed, including a male fertility specialist and OBGYN at the University of Miami.

In addition to the medical treatment of CAH, the comprehensive care center also provides:

  • Psychological support for patient and families
  • Transitional care for adolescents entering adulthood
  • Genetic counseling
  • Nutritional support and counseling
