Patient of the Month: Alanis

After a healthy delivery of her newborn baby girl Alanis, Ana was told that she was born with a small caramel colored birthmark on her arm. Not immediately alarmed by the news, Ana waited for their first appointment with the pediatrician who then referred them to Ana Margarita Duarte, MD, Director of the Division of Dermatology at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. Young Girl Born with Birthmark on Her Lip has Surgery that Will Change Her Life

Just a few weeks after Brianna was born, her mother noticed a red growth on her daughter’s upper lip.  Her pediatrician referred the family to specialists who diagnosed the growth as an Infantile Hemangioma. Matthew's Sturge-Weber Syndrome Success Story

When Matthew was just 6 weeks old, an MRI scan showed excessive blood vessel growth on the surface of his brain that was causing abnormal function. The scan confirmed Sturge-Weber Syndrome. Read this story.
