Minima Renata Stent Procedure

Our Heart Institute team successfully placed a Minima Renata stent via cardiac catheterization in a baby weighing less than 1 kilogram — just under 2 pounds. This ultra-small, pediatric-designed stent helps open a critically narrow blood vessel in medically fragile newborns. Because these babies are so tiny, very few heart centers in the nation have the expertise or access to this technology to perform the procedure safely.

By using this stent, babies with congenital heart disease undergo less invasive interventions and experience better, more timely recovery — giving even the smallest hearts a stronger start.

This milestone is another example of how our Heart Institute brings world-class innovation to families here in South Florida — giving even the smallest hearts a stronger start.
