The division of Pediatric Urology at Nicklaus Children's Hospital offers a two-year, ACGME-accredited fellowship in Pediatric Urology. The program has been continually accredited, with its most recent accreditation occuring in 2016.
The division provides consultation and surgery to pediatric and adolescent patients with disorders of genital tract and urinary system. The Fellowship affords the opportunity for the Fellows to gain experience in the major areas of Pediatric Urology through to diverse clinical opportunities and didactic conferences at the Hospital.
Curriculum
The training is conducted primarily at Nicklaus Children's Hospital and a supplemental surgery experience takes place at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Fellows will have the opportunity to teach and supervise PGY-2 and PGY-4 Urology Residents from Jackson Memorial Hospital rotating at Nicklaus Children's Hospital for their Pediatric Urology required rotations.
First Year
The clinical year consists of a combination of operative, inpatient and outpatient experience and educational conferences in Pediatric Urology (ACGME accredited year).
Second Year
Is structured to serve as a transitional year to becoming an attending physician. Also days of the week are spent designing, conducting and publishing clinical research projects (research year). This research year allows candidates to meet the requirements for eligibility for Pediatric Urology Board Certification.

In accordance with the ACGME requirements, each training program is expected to form a Clinical Competency Committee (CCC). The program director appoints the CCC. The CCC must have at least three program core faculty (excluding the program director) who have the opportunity to observe and evaluate the residents. The CCC meets at least semi-annually to review and discuss each individual residents’ performance data and make a consensus decision on the progress of each resident by applying assessment data to the milestones. The CCC serves as an early warning system/early identification if a resident fails to progress in the educational program and make recommendations to the program director for resident progress including promotion, remediation, and dismissal. The program director meets with each resident semi-annually to review the CCC report and design an individualized learning plan for the resident. To learn more about the CCC, click here.
