Scabies is a skin condition caused by a tiny insect known as a human itch mite. The disease occurs when the mite burrows into the skin and begins feeding.
The human itch mite is the direct cause of scabies. It can be passed from person to person through direct skin contact or contact with infected items like towels or bedding.
Extreme itchiness, rash, sores and a thick crust on the skin are the common symptoms of scabies.
Scabies can be successfully treated with a prescription topical medicine that is applied directly to the skin.
