Kaposiform hemangioendothelioma is a rare, rapidly growing mass of blood vessels that may be present at birth or develop during infancy.
A kaposiform hemangioendothelioma appears as a poorly defined mass of blood vessels, blue to purple in color. Kaposiform hemangioendotheliomas commonly develop on the trunk of the body and are highly associated with Kasabach-Merritt syndrome.
Patients with kaposiform hemangioendothelioma should be monitored for issues or disorders in clotting as it often affects the amount of platelets in the body.
Treatment options for kaposiform hemangioendotheliomas include surgical removal and transcatheter embolization.
