ILU Abdominal Massage

Also known as: I Love You Massage

What is the ILU Massage?

The ILU massage, also known as the I Love You massage, is a gentle way to help the digestive system move things along. It follows the natural path of the large intestine: up, across, and down. This technique can help with gas, bloating, constipation, and general abdominal discomfort.

How the ILU Massage Works

The large intestine is shaped like an upside-down U. The right side is the ascending colon , the top is the transverse colon and the left side is the descending colon. Performing a massage in this order, can help move gas and stool in the direction your body is designed to go.

ILU Massage Step-by-Step Instructions

Before starting:
  • Lie down comfortably on your back
  • Use lotion or oil if desired
  • Warm up your hands

  1. “I” Stroke – Down the Left Side
This follows the descending colon (the end of the large intestine):
  • Start just under your left rib cage
  • Move your hand straight down toward your left hip bone
  • Do this 10 times using gentle pressure

  1. “L” Stroke – Across and Down
This follows the transverse colon and down the descending colon.
  • Start just below your right rib cage
  • Move across the upper stomach to your left rib cage
  • Then move down the left side to your left hip
  • Repeat 10 times

  1. “U” Stroke – Up, Across, and Down
This follows the full path of the large intestine (ascending → transverse → descending).
  • Start at your right hip
  • Move up to your right rib cage
  • Move across to your left rib cage
  • Move down to your left hip
  • Repeat 10 times

  1. Finish with Small Circles
This helps stimulate the small intestine and relax the stomach.
  • Use gentle clockwise circles around your belly button
  • Keep your fingers about 2–3 inches out from the belly button
  • Do this for 1–2 minutes
