Lorna Ramos Course on Pediatric Brachial Plexus Injury

Our physicians lead research, and work in collaboration with the Lorna Ramos Course on the rehabilitation of children with brachial plexus injuries.The Lorna Ramos course was created to honor the memory of the late Lorna Ramos OTR/L, an occupational therapist who specialized in pediatric Brachial Plexus Birth Injury.

Neural-Enabled Prosthetic Hand (NEPH) System Developed at FIU restores sensation to first human subject

November 06, 2018 – The NEPH system, developed at Florida International University by Ranu Jung and her Adaptive Neural Systems Laboratory team, restores a sense of touch/grasp force and hand opening by stimulating sensory nerve fibers in the residual limb with fine wires implanted inside nerves. Implantation of the device was performed by Dr. Aaron Berger and his team from Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. Berger is a hand and peripheral nerve surgeon who holds an appointment in FIU’s Department of Biomedical Engineering. 

Miami Children's Hospital Performs First Nerve Repair Surgery Using Avance Nerve® Graft Technology

June 26, 2012 – The Avance® Nerve Graft isa valuable new tool that is changing how the surgical reconstruction of injured brachial plexus nerves is approached. Dr. John A. I. Grossman used this new technology to repair a brachial plexus injury on a 6 month-old baby girl.
