The Dr. Maria Lina "Bing" Wood Memorial Scholarship for Advanced Education Nursing Students is an award that promotes advanced education within the nursing profession. Dr. Maria Lina "Bing" Wood was a Nicklaus Children's nurse who embodied a passion for the advancement of nursing education, quality patient care and a culture of safety.
Dr. Wood's professionalism, dedication and commitment to life-long learning made her a role model for nurses everywhere. In her honor, the Maria Lina "Bing" Wood Nursing Scholarship and Education Fund was established and sponsored by the Nicklaus Children's Nursing Department to provide opportunities to Nicklaus Children's nurses who want to further their nursing education.
Recipients will receive a $2,000 award towards their educational goals.
Eligibility Criteria
- Maintain employee benefit status (full-time or part time)
- Hold a current Florida nursing license
- Enrolled in an approved accredited nursing program"
Required Documentation
- Letter of acceptance into an approved accredited nursing program
- Proof of enrollment in above program
- Two or more letters of reference
- Current CV or resume
- Complete an essay with a minimum of 350 words describing your influence and future goals as a Magnet nurse. Essay must demonstrate how you bring the Magnet Model alive in your nursing practice through at least one of the Magnet principles such as professional engagement, commitment to professional development, community involvement, nursing recognition, the Professional Practice Model (PPM), diversity & workplace advocacy, culture of safety, staffing/budgeting processes, quality care monitoring & improvements, evidence based practice (EBP) & Nursing Research, and innovations in nursing practice

Application submissions are due by March 1st, 2026 and awardees will be presented during our Nurses' Week Ceremony.
