Pediatric Neurosurgeon

Dr. Hornig is employed by Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists, the multispecialty group practice of Nicklaus Children’s Health System. He is a neurosurgeon within the Brain Institute and Division of Neurosurgery at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. Prior to joining Nicklaus Children’s, Dr. Hornig served for more than 20 years as the section chief of neurosurgery at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He earned his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in Ohio. Dr. Hornig then pursued a residency in neurosurgery and fellowship in surgery at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. His clinical interests include hydrocephalus, epilepsy, spasticity, trauma and brain tumors.

Dr. Hornig is board certified in neurological surgery. He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, American Society of Pediatric Neurosurgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, International Society of Pediatric Neurosurgery and the Neurosurgical Society of America. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and he has presented at many conferences, both nationally and globally. Dr. Hornig is an advocate for bringing world-class neurological care to children in developing nations and participates in medical mission trips to South America. He has been the recipient of numerous awards for his dedication, academic achievement, and accomplishments. Dr. Hornig is frequently sought out as a subject-matter expert.

Dr. Horning sees patients at the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital main campus, Nicklaus Children’s Aventura Care Center, Nicklaus Children’s Boynton Beach Care Center, Nicklaus Children’s Palm Beach Gardens Outpatient Center and Golisano Children’s Hospital in Naples, Florida. He is trilingual in English, French and Spanish.
