Pediatric Gastroenterologist


Dr. Annette L. Medina is a pediatric gastroenterologist within the Division of Gastroenterology at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. She earned her medical degree from Ponce Health Sciences University in Puerto Rico. Dr. Medina completed a residency in pediatrics at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami, where she also served as chief resident. She then pursued a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center/Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. Her clinical interests encompass gastrointestinal disorders such as abdominal pain and constipation, as well as eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases, including eosinophilic esophagitis and liver disease. 

Dr. Medina is board certified in general pediatrics and pediatric gastroenterology. She is a member of the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (NASPGHAN). Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and she has presented at medical conferences.

Dr. Medina is employed by Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists (NCPS), the physician-led multispecialty group practice of Nicklaus Children’s Health System. She is bilingual in English and Spanish.

The Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital is dedicated to the treatment of a wide variety of gastrointestinal problems in children and adolescents. The team employs a multidisciplinary approach that brings together an array of specialists to deliver personalized care to the patient and family. The Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Center provides comprehensive support and management for children and young adults with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, while the Gastrointestinal (GI) Center offers nutritional assessment and counseling for overweight children, as well as those with dietary restrictions. Consultations with the division’s board-certified physicians are offered in both English and Spanish at the hospital’s main campus near Coral Gables and Nicklaus Children’s outpatient centers located from southern Miami-Dade to Martin counties.
