Dr. Mercedes Bello is a pediatric neurologist with the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Brain Institute and serves as medical director of the Sleep Disorders Center. She earned her medical degree from the Higher Institute of Medical Sciences in Havana, Cuba. Dr. Bello completed a residency in pediatrics at Hospital Pediátrico Universitario Dr. Antonio Ortiz in San Juan, Puerto Rico; followed by a residency in pediatric neurology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center/Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis. She then pursued a fellowship in sleep medicine at the University of South Florida in Tampa. Her clinical interests include pediatric sleep disorders, autism, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and epilepsy.
 
Dr. Bello is board certified in sleep medicine and neurology with special qualifications in pediatric neurology. She is a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and she has presented at medical conferences.
 
Dr. Bello is employed by Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists (NCPS), the physician-led multispecialty medical group practice of Nicklaus Children’s Health System. She is bilingual in English and Spanish.
