Dr. Mestre is employed by Pediatric Specialists of America (PSA)
, the physician-led group practice of Nicklaus Children’s Health System. He joined Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in 2005 as a pediatric hospitalist and most recently served as president of the Medical Staff and chairman of the Medical Executive Committee. Dr. Mestre is currently the senior medical director of hospital-based services, as well as the medical director and PSA section chief of the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine
at Nicklaus Children's Hospital. He also sits on the board of Pediatric Specialists of America as vice chairman and acting chairman. After earning his medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, Dr. Mestre completed his pediatric residency at the University of North Carolina (UNC) Hospitals in Chapel Hill. Board certified in pediatrics, he also holds an executive master of business administration degree in Health Sector Management & Policy from the University of Miami. His clinical interests include standardization of clinical pathways and efficient use of health care resources.
Dr. Mestre is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Section on Hospital Medicine and the Society of Hospital Medicine. In addition, he is a clinical assistant professor at the Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine and active on several of the hospital’s committees, including the Quality Improvement Committee, Pediatric Resident Selection Committee, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and the Physician Advisory Group for Pediatric Electronic Medical Records (PEDS).
Dr. Mestre, who has been recognized on the America’s Best Doctors list, sees patients at the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital main campus and the De George Pediatric Unit at Jupiter Medical Center.
He is fluent in English and Spanish.
