Maria Pilar Gennaro, APRN, MSN, CNRN, RN  

Maria Pilar Gennaro is a nurse practitioner within the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Brain Institute. She completed a bachelor’s degree in nursing, along with a master’s degree in nursing, at the University of Miami. Her clinical interests include rare genetic disorders, epilepsy and ketogenic diet for the treatment of epilepsy and certain genetic/metabolic disorders. 

Ms. Gennaro is a certified neurology nurse (CNRN) and a member of the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses (AANN). She joined Nicklaus Children’s in 1988 and began her career at Nicklaus Children’s working as a nurse in the Neurology office, then performing consults as a nurse practitioner for neurology inpatients, as well as providing care to patients in the Neurogenetics Clinic. She was instrumental in launching the Ketogenic Diet Center in the 1990s and continues to lead the implementation of the diet for all patients when indicated and oversees their progress. Ms. Gennaro transitioned to the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Brain Institute in 2012 and sees patients in the Tuberous Sclerosis Program, Ion-Channel Epilepsy Program, Rare Chromosomal Disorders Program, and those diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome, Duplication 15q Syndrome and Rett Syndrome.  

Ms. Gennaro is employed by Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists (NCPS), the physician-led multispecialty group practice of Nicklaus Children’s Health System. A native of Bogota, Colombia, she is bilingual in English and Spanish.
