What is oligodendroglioma?

Oligodendroglioma is a type of brain tumor that affects the glial tissue of the brain. These are the supportive cells that provide structure to the brain. The tumors may contain a mixture of different types of cells.

What causes oligodendroglioma?

There appears to be a chromosomal abnormality related to the development of oligodendroglioma. However, why this occurs is not exactly clear.

What are the symptoms of oligodendroglioma?

At first, oligodendroglioma does not cause any symptoms. Over time, it can lead to seizures, personality changes, headaches, memory problems or weakness on one side of the body.

What are oligodendroglioma care options?

When it’s accessible, surgical removal of the tumor is the preferred treatment for oligodendroglioma. Typically, radiation therapy and chemotherapy are then used to prevent a recurrence and kill surrounding cancer cells.
