Daytime Enuresis

Also known as: diurnal enuresis, urinary incontinence, daytime urine accidents.

What is daytime enuresis?

Daytime enuresis is a problem that occurs among children in which they have urine accidents during the day. It’s common among school-age children between the ages of 4 and 12.

What causes daytime enuresis?

Daytime enuresis can be related to other medical conditions such as:

Constipation, a urinary tract infection (UTI) or poor bathroom habits can also lead to daytime enuresis.

What are the symptoms of daytime enuresis?

The physical act of wetting themselves are the primary symptoms of daytime enuresis. If this occurs frequently, for several months in a row or starts to occur in a child that did not have these problems before, then medical intervention may be necessary.

What are daytime enuresis care options?

In many cases, modification of the child’s nutrition and hydration and creating a healthier bathroom routine with regularly schedule visits can help with issues related to daytime enuresis. More severe issues may require medication, biofeedback or other forms of medical intervention.
