David Lowe, MD, FAAP

Associate Medical Director, Emergency Department Quality 

Dr. David Lowe is a pediatric emergency medicine specialist and serves as associate medical director of Emergency Department Quality within the Emergency Department at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. In his role as associate medical director of Emergency Department Quality, Dr. Lowe manages data-driven quality performance and improvement initiatives in collaboration with the chief of Emergency Medicine and medical director of the Emergency Department. He earned his medical degree from the University of the West Indies in Mona, Jamaica. Dr. Lowe completed a residency in pediatrics at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine/Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he also served as chief resident. He then pursued a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine at Harvard Medical School/Boston’s Children’s Hospital in Massachusetts.

Dr. Lowe is board certified in general pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Lowe is an active member of the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital medical staff and serves on its Clinical Competence Committee and Clinical Effectiveness Program. He is also the chair of the Scholarship Oversight Committee for the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship Program. His professional interests include data analytics and educational media productions. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and he has presented at national medical conferences.

Dr. Lowe is employed by Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists (NCPS), the multispecialty medical group practice of Nicklaus Children’s Health System.

The Emergency Department at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital is one of the most visited emergency rooms in the nation and has a team of board-certified and fellowship-trained attending pediatric specialists and subspecialists on call, 24 hours a day. To continue to be a leader in ensuring patient satisfaction, the entire staff continually devises and implements strategies to reduce patient waiting time, enhance the waiting room atmosphere and improve the delivery of care for patients and families. The Emergency Department is also home to the Miguel "Mike" B. Fernandez Family Pediatric Trauma Center, the only freestanding Level I pediatric trauma center in South Florida. An adjoining helipad enhances the facility’s ability to handle incoming traumas, as well as transfers from other hospitals.
