Plantar fasciitis is a medical term that refers to pain in the heel of the foot. It’s the most common type of heel pain.
What causes plantar fasciitis?
Repetitive stress to the heel, often from activities such as running, can cause plantar fasciitis. Poor shoe choices, being obese or certain jobs can increase the risk of developing plantar fasciitis.
What are the symptoms of plantar fasciitis?
Pain and difficulty standing on the foot are the primary symptoms of plantar fasciitis. The pain varies in intensity and might be worse upon waking up or after exercise.
What are plantar fasciitis treatments?
Over-the-counter pain relievers, stretching, physical therapy, orthotic shoes and inserts and splints that you wear during the night can relieve plantar fasciitis.
