This class is offered to parents, caregivers, family members and professionals who are interested in learning different methods of promoting language development and social skills in daily activities across various settings. Topics discussed will include eliciting language during play, meals and bed and bath time. Families will have an opportunity to ask questions during open discussion at the conclusion of the lecture.
Jimena Blanco is a bilingual speech language pathologist at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Miami Lakes Outpatient Center. She graduated in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Florida International University and received a master’s in speech language pathology in 2010 from Nova Southeastern University. She is a Certified Autism Specialist and is also certified in using the Hanen approach and behavioral interventions in children with autism spectrum disorders. Jimena is passionate about working with families to further educate on improving play, language and feeding skills.

Patricia Santana is a bilingual speech language pathologist at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Miami Lakes Outpatient Center. She completed her bachelor’s in science degree from Florida International University in 2008 and her master’s in communication sciences and disorders from Florida State University in 2012. Patty treats patients with varying diagnoses including autism, feeding aversions, language delay/disorders, and voice and fluency disorders. She is certified in providing the Hanen approach and works with adults in acute care settings.
Educating the community regarding methods of expanding language in everyday activities is her passion.
