Dr. S. Pinar Karakas-Rothey is a pediatric radiologist and serves as the lead of fetal imaging within the Department of Radiology at Nicklaus Children's Hospital. She earned her medical degree from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in Ankara, Turkey. Dr. Karakas then completed residencies in diagnostic radiology at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in Turkey and Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York. She then pursued a fellowship in pediatric radiology at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park. Her clinical interests include abdominal, musculoskeletal and neuro imaging with a particular interest in fetal imaging.

Dr. Karakas is board certified in pediatric radiology and diagnostic radiology. She was appointed an associate professor at the Lerner College of Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic and professor at the University of California at San Francisco. Dr. Karakas is a member of the Society for Pediatric Radiology. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and she currently serves as a reviewer for the American Journal of Radiology and the Society for Pediatric Radiology. Dr. Karakas is interested in research that improves the clinical applications of radiology. She has also presented at national and international medical conferences and written chapters for medical textbooks.
 
Dr. Karakas is employed by Nicklaus Children's Pediatric Specialists (NCPS), the physician-led multispecialty group practice of Nicklaus Children's Health System. She is bilingual in English and Turkish.
 
The Department of Radiology at Nicklaus Children's Hospital features state-of-the-art equipment. The radiology practice has been serving the community since the hospital's inception in 1950. Under the leadership of Dr. Nolan R. Altman, department chief, the group is the largest in South Florida devoted exclusively to the practice of pediatric radiology. It includes board-certified experts in pediatric radiology, nuclear medicine, neuroradiology and cardiac CT imaging, with special interests in fetal imaging, pediatric interventional, as well as developmental and musculoskeletal disorders. The group is the only one in South Florida that offers a pediatric radiology fellowship, and also trains radiology residents.
