Mr. Susla is deputy general counsel of Miami Children’s Health System (MCHS)
including counsel and corporate secretary of Pediatric Specialists of America (PSA),
the health system’s physician-led multispecialty group practice. In these roles, he manages and implements the legal component of strategic projects, provides all services for physician-related legal matters and oversees the legal department’s operations, staff and outside counsel. Mr. Susla also serves on the board of directors of PSA, The Miami Medical Center
and Conecta Health™ Network, Florida’s first and only women’s and children’s clinically integrated network.
During his tenure with the health system, Mr. Susla has instituted a tracking system that has yielded an average turnaround time of three days for the initial legal review of contracts. He also administered legal counsel for the joint venture between MCHS and other collaborators to open The Miami Medical Center, an 83-bed hospital located near West Miami that offers a luxurious care environment with a commitment to service excellence. In addition to serving on Conecta Health™ Network’s board of directors, Mr. Susla was involved in fostering MCHS’ relationship with VitalMD® Group Holding, LLC, to form this clinically integrated network.
Mr. Susla is board certified in health care law by the Florida Bar, certified in health care compliance and a licensed healthcare risk manager. He currently serves on the health law board certification committee of the Florida Bar and was appointed vice chair for FY 2018. Mr. Susla is a member of the Florida Bar and American Health Lawyer’s Association. He earned his law degree from the Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he was president of the Health Law Society and associate editor of the Indiana Law Review
, the school’s legal periodical. Mr. Susla also holds a Master of Health Administration (MHA) from Indiana University.
Prior to joining the health system in 2011, Mr. Susla was chief compliance officer, corporate secretary and legal counsel for Boca Raton Regional Hospital, a $350 million not-for-profit healthcare organization located in Palm Beach County, Florida. Before that, he served as compliance officer and privacy officer for St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach and West Boca Medical Center, part of Tenet Healthcare Corporation, a $17 billion multinational investor-owned healthcare services company.
